Admissions — Apply to Alban Preschool Nursery in High Barnet EN5

Admissions

We welcome children from age 2. Places are limited — read on to find out how to apply and what to expect.

How to Apply

1
Visit the nursery

Contact Val by phone or email to arrange a visit. We always recommend seeing the nursery in person before applying — come and get a feel for the space and meet the team.

2
Download and return the application form

Download the application form below and return it to us with an original copy of your child's birth certificate. A £200 holding deposit is required to secure your child's place — this is deducted from your first term's invoice.

3
Play visits

We arrange three play visits before your child starts. The first is 1 hour and you stay for the whole session. The second and third visits depend on how your child settled, but typically last around 2 hours. This gradual process helps children feel safe and confident.

4
Your child starts

Children can start after their 2nd birthday, in term time. We will agree a start date together and ensure everything is in place for a smooth, happy first day.

Age range

We accept children from their 2nd birthday, in term time, up to school age (4–5 years).

Sessions available
  • Morning session
  • Afternoon session
  • Full day (with lunch)
  • Minimum 2 sessions per week
Toilet training

Children do not need to be toilet trained. Please provide nappies, wipes and nappy bags. All staff have DBS certificates. No volunteers or students change nappies.

Car parking

There is a short-stay car park at the rear of the building for drop-off and pick-up.

Free Childcare Entitlement

Most families are eligible for government-funded childcare hours. Here's how it works at Alban.

2-Year-Old Funding

If your 2-year-old has been offered government funding, they are entitled to 15 hours free childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year. We have limited places — proof of eligibility required.

15 Hours (Age 3–4)

All children aged 3 and 4 are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week, available the term after their 3rd birthday. No means testing required.

30 Hours (Extended)

Working parents of 3–4 year olds may be eligible for 30 hours free childcare per week. Eligibility is checked via the government childcare choices portal.

Childcare Vouchers & Tax-Free Childcare

We accept workplace childcare voucher schemes. If your employer offers this benefit, you can use your vouchers to pay for sessions at Alban.

Tax-Free Childcare is a government scheme where for every £8 you pay in, the government adds £2 — up to £2,000 per year per child. You can use this alongside funded hours.
